This unexpected excursion came about when a friend asked me to paint a cover for his music album. (You can see that finished art and purchase the thrilling album here. However, when he first asked me to do the album, I had my head in a completely different place. At the mention of the album’s title, I immediately thought of a scene like this, a little bug hanging onto a tuft of a seed, being blown from the night into the sunrise. What does dawn signify? Where does it lead? Often I feel like the bug, sort of vulnerable in this fast and wild world, carried into an unknown future by unknown forces. For those in Christ, we believe that God has all creation in His power, and we take this excursion into the unknown, trusting in His goodness. Many times the way proves difficult and the day surprises us with heartache, but ultimately our good Shepherd leads us into His dear presence. Not everyone has that comfort. For those outside of Christ, the universe is a monstrous, meaningless enemy. But for those who see, angelic armies fill the mountains and rocks sing the praises of their Creator. Every morning is alive with grace, and births adventure with each dawn.
